The Effectiveness of Ayurvedic Medicine for Diabetes

Ayurveda was developed in India more than 3,000 years ago and it has since been one of the oldest natural healing methods in the world.

What is Diabetes? 

Diabetes is known as Madhumeha or Prameha in Ayurveda. The name Madhumeha, literally translated, is “sweet urine” because Madhu means “sweet” and Meha means “urine”. This name is derived from the fact that the urine of diabetic patients is sweet.  

In Ayurveda, each person can be described by a unique collection of Doshas; among them, the main three are Pitta, Vata, and Kapha. The imbalance of those doshas is considered a cause of diabetes.

  • Karela 

The juice of this vegetable works wonderfully in managing and reducing the complications of blood sugar. Kerala juice works best with the juice of Amla. 

  • Turmeric 

Turmeric powder is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-cancer properties and thus can treat diabetes. It helps the patients by purifying the blood and helping in reducing insulin resistance.  

  • Fenugreek 

It is a pungent and spicy herb that can help diabetic patients by reducing excessive Kapha. Fenugreek can control both the sugar and cholesterol levels of our blood.  

  • Amla 

Amla is full of vitamin C and is a very powerful antioxidant. It can easily slow down the aging process and thus can help address diabetes.
